The Trans-Himalayan Ride - Kathmandu to Lhasa, takes you from one mystical world to another. 

An ultimate adventure on a 500cc Royal Enfield motorbike is undertaken on the most exhilarating and challenging roads in the world. Riders will enjoy the freedom and independence of solo adventure, without being totally alone, on a route designed to experience the Himalayan’s landscape, people and culture. 

Climbing out of Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, to the border crossing at Kodari, and then up to the Tibetan Plateau, where the average elevation is 4,900m, will challenge the best of riders. The ride takes you via Everest Base Camp, Rongbuk, over the Gyatso La (5220m) and Karo La (5050m) passes. We will pass through Shigatse, Tibet’s second largest city, and pass the stunning turquoise waters of Yamdrok Tso before arriving in Lhasa, on mostly paved but part gravel and sand roads. En route, you will ride through vast stunning desert landscapes where roads disappear into the horizon. You will encounter nomadic life, pass magnificent monasteries and experience Tibetan culture and history. In Lhasa visits to the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Sera, Drepung and more are made before leaving the “Roof of the World”. 

The amazing scenic views are experienced again on the flight back to Kathmandu, which offers one of the most stunning aerial views in the world.

Day 01 - Arrive in Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel. Alt. 1,350m / 4,428ft. Overnight Hotel.
Day 02 - Sightseeing around Kathmandu. Visit Durbar Square and Swayambhunath. Overnight Hotel.
Day 03 - Kathmandu - Nyalam. Pass through the beautiful Panchkhal Valley, passing terraced fields, lush green countryside and local villages as it follows the Bhote Koshi River. After completing immigration and customs formalities a climb is then taken to Nyalam. Welcome to Tibet! Alt. 3,750m / 12,300ft. Ride 7 hours. Distance 180km. Overnight Lodge/Teahouse.
Day 04 - Nyalam - Tingri. Cross two passes Thong-La (5,120m) and Lalung La (5,050m). En-route we visit Milarepa's cave. Alt. 4,000m / 13,120ft. Ride 5 hours. Distance 160km. Overnight Lodge/Teahouse.
Day 05 - Tingri - Rongbuk - Everest Base camp - Rongbuk. Here starts the taste of the "Top of the World"; the remoteness shows the real beauty of the area. Riding through the wilderness, you will be ascending to Rongbuk and then up to Everest base camp - 5200m and then back to Rongbuk. Alt. 4,950m / 16,236ft. Ride 5 hours. Distance 110km. Overnight Lodge/Teahouse.
Day 06 - Rongbuk - Lhatse. Today's ride is pleasant; you will be passing a 5220m Pass called "Gyatso La" and continuing down into the colourful valley of Lhatse where you will spend the night. Alt. 3,900m / 12,792ft. Ride 4 hours. Distance 150km. Overnight Lodge/Teahouse.
Day 07 - Lhatse - Shigatse. The journey continues through a number of villages to Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet. The ride today will take you across Yulung La (4950m) and over fairly unpaved roads in the plateau area. If interested, you can visit the "Tashilhumpo Monastery", a vast monastery with its own streets, housing sectors, plazas, back alleys and complex temples and halls. Alt. 4,000m / 13,120ft. Ride 5 hours. Distance 334km. Overnight Lodge/Teahouse.
Day 08 - Shigatse - Gyantse. Your drive to Gyantse takes you through intensely agricultural and cultivated areas. Afternoon excursion to an old castle, Kumbum and Palcho Chode monastery. Alt. 4,000m / 13,120ft. Ride 4 hours. Distance 90km. Overnight Lodge/Teahouse.
Day 09 - Gyantse - Lhasa. The final leg of the journey is an off-road route from Gyantse to the turquoise Lake "Yamdrok Tso". You will be crossing the high passes of "Karo La" (5050m) and Kamba La (4794m). As your destination, Lhasa, approaches you are meet by Potala Palace on the horizon. Alt. 3,650m. Ride 5 hours. Distance 280km. Overnight Hotel.
Day 10 - Sightseeing tour in and around Lhasa. Riding around Lhasa visiting various interesting sites (Potala Palace, Sera monastery, Drepung Monastery, Norbulingka palace etc) Alt. 3,650m. Ride 5 hours. Overnight Hotel.
Day 11 - Lhasa - Kathmandu by flight: One of the most scenic flights in the world.

Cost Excludes

  • International air fare to/ from Nepal.
  • Lunch and dinner prior to the trek, please allow US$ 20 per day.
  • Meals at airports and whilst in Kathmandu/ Pokhara - allow per day.
  • Entry Visa fees - at present for 15 day, US$ 40 for 30 day, and US$ 100 for three month visa on entry into Nepal.
  • Insurance which covers, medical, emergency evacuation, lost, theft expenses.
  • Drinks: both alcoholic and bottled other than sterilized drinking water.
  • Laundry fees.
  • All foods and beverages other than on the itinerary.
