Responsible Travel

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Trek Nepal Int’l was established and is run by professionals who have been involved in the trekking and travel industry for nearly 3 decades. Trek Nepal Int’l is licensed under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Nepal.

Our organization has grown over the years and our staff are fully dedicated travel professionals who are trained and experienced to show the best that our country has to offer. We follow a sustainable philosophy that seeks to be responsible to the society and the environment in which we work. We also provide equal opportunities for Nepalese youth, especially women, to engage and build a stable future for Nepal’s tourism industry. Our guides have respect for the pristine biodiversity and unique culture of this Himalayan region. With our solid experience and international reputation for leading the way in adventure travel, we set out on exciting and safe, independent and fully-supported group adventures and expeditions.

Nepal is rugged and beautiful, but also ecologically and culturally fragile. Trek Nepal Int’l is committed to upholding the values of eco-tourism and responsible travel. Let us help you plan your adventure down to the smallest detail to ensure that your trip to Nepal is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We now invite you to experience Nepal with the team at Trek Nepal Int’l and allow us to share with you, your friends, and family, the many splendours of our beautiful Himalayan nation.

MINIMAL IMPACT

As the saying goes: “Let the Himalayas change you, do not change the Himalayas.” It is easy in a developing country like Nepal, where tourism activities are unregulated, for the environment to be subjected to irreversible abuse from the negative effects of tourism. After many years of working with one of Nepal’s largest outfitters, we have seen the effect that tourism can have on the environment and we here at Trek Nepal Int’l have developed adventure activities that are environmentally sound to protect our precious Himalayan biodiversity. We do simple things to make a big difference: we carry back all of our rubbish with us from our trips, our cooking is done over adapted gas or kerosene stoves –never firewood, we urge our clients to bring warm clothes for evening as we do not believe in campfires and promote the 3R and zero carbon policy. We strongly believe in ‘nature based adventures.’

CONTRIBUTING TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Our company is wholly Nepalese owned and operated and the team members of the company originate from the mountain areas. We support the indigenous people and local industry such as handicraft, organic food, local accommodation etc. Trek Nepal Int’l has been consistently contributing to the operation of several schools and orphanages that were affected during past conflicts in Nepal. Some of the accommodations we use along the way are charity based lodges. The money we pay goes towards the educational and care expenses of the orphans and children who are disabled in the area. Ultimately, we aim to be involved in community and environmental projects that will benefit our people and our country. Our philosophy is simple: We believe in ‘Community-based Sustainable Tourism’.

Adventure travel has to be fun, safe and rewarding for the clients and the guides whilst contributing to local  economy and leaving minimal impact on the environment.

WE CARE FOR OUR PORTERS AND STAFF

We ensure that all of the porters/support team members and staff assisting or traveling with you are provided with adequate clothing and equipment and well commensurated financially. We provide insurance and emergency helicopter evacuation for our staff if needed. Our staff are young, energetic, trustworthy and professional at their jobs. You can meet them in person before your trip departure in Kathmandu. We operate our treks according to the guidelines of the International Porter Protection group (IPPG – www.ippg.net).

Trek Nepal Foundation

Trek Nepal Foundation was envisioned by a group of friends and family to support the redevelopment and rebuilding of villages and communities affected by the 2015 earthquake. Beyond its initial focus, the Foundation has continued its existence to serve its primary goal of humanitarian assistance even during Covid pandemic. Our attention in future months, and in fact for many years to come, is to carry out timely humanitarian projects to help marginalized communities in education, hygiene & sanitation, women empowerment and income-generation activities. As a side project, we are introducing community-based treks which allows our guests to trek to economically-deprived rural areas and spend meaningful time volunteering for the community and leaving a positive impact.
