The Annapurna Treks is home to some of the highest mountains in the world, while the legendary Annapurna Circuit trekking is the best known route for trekkers, and since 1977, it has been one of Nepal’s classic ranges for hiking. It is one of the most immersive ways to experience the Annapurna Circuit trek in Nepal. These are the distance routes, lasting a couple of weeks at least, but those who can tear themselves away from the city life and commit to a long-distance trek are rewarded by routes packed with teahouses, Tibetan temples, lowlands, and big, spiky high mountains.

Along with walking the Marsyangdi Khola, this trial will lead us through the rice terraces, forest, and across a suspension bridge.  And from here, you will slowly gain altitude and acclimatize in preparation for the ascent towards the arid semi-desert. This trial will bless you with a close-up stunning scenery of the Annapurnas II, III, and IV. This remote area of our Annapurna Circuit Trekking is located in a rain shadow formed by the Annapurnas, and the landscape supports little in the way of forests apart from pine, juniper, and scrub rhododendron. Thus, it is huge glacial moraines that abound, etched deeply by wind erosion into fantastic pillars.

Highlights:

  • Spectacular views of the above 7,000m peaks of the complete Annapurna massif.
  • Hindu settlements in the subtropical south to predominantly Buddhist cultures in the north.
  • Allows the proper acclimatization as the path gains altitude along the Marsyangdi Khola.
  • Provides close-range views of Annapurna II, III, and IV.
  • Crossing one of Nepal’s highest trekking passes, Thorung La Pass at 5,416m.

We will start our journey to the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal by driving westwards to Dharapani. It is the starting point of our Annapurna Circuit trekking. The long 7 to 8 hours drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani will provide us with a perfect opportunity to observe the following rivers, terraced rice fields, and beautiful landscape, which also includes rural villages, along with the breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range

Day 3Trek from Dharapani to Chame. Alt. 2170m, Trek 5 hours

Overnight lodge/teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

The hike of the Annapurna Circuit Trekking in Nepal today will start pretty easily with a gentle section, crossing an initial suspension bridge on the route towards Danaque. As we reach Danaque village, we will continue our Annapurna treks to the Tamang Village. In Dharapani, there are unique houses that are made of stone and also have slate roofs. Through here, you will get the chance to see breathtaking sights of Annapurna, Manaslu, and other peaks. We will keep going through a few more villages, and the path continues through several culturally Tibetan villages, including Thanchowk and Koto, before concluding at the day’s destination of Chame.

Day 4Trek from Chame to Pisang. Alt. 3115m, Trek 5 hours

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Leaving Chame, we will hike toward the village of Telekhu. The trail will have some incredible views of the Annapurna Circuit trekking through the Annapurna treks mountains and the huge Mt. Pisang (6091 m). Moving forward while enjoying the sights of the peaks, we will recross the suspension bridge, which is on the south side of the Marsyangdi River. We will be having a little walk through the cool pine forests, and once we keep moving higher up to the Manang Valley until we reach the Village of Pisang.

Day 5Trek from Pisang to Manang (3540m). Alt. 3520m, Trek 5-6 hrs

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

As we start our trek from Pisang to Manang, we will be starting with a long climb up to a small pass. The views of the mountains all around us will be stunning, making you feel totally effort worthy. We will be descending into the valley below Pisang Peak to Humde. And there we will find a magnificent Mani wall and spectacular views of Pisang Peak and Annapurna III, which is 7,555 m.

The upcoming path of our Annapurna Circuit trekking will become wide and dusty as we keep walking up to the valley, reaching a village called Manang, which is surrounded by the Himalayas. The people living here are Tibetan, as it is filled with ancient Buddhist stupas and monasteries. If you look to the northeast, you will be able to see the four Chulu peaks, and if you look towards the southwest direction, then there you will see great Mount Ganggapurna. Moreover, the best thing about this place is the sunset and the sunrise looking over these great peaks, offering stunning dawn and dusk in Nepal.

Day 6Acclimatization Day at Manang. Alt. 3520m, Hike 4 hrs

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

In preparation for crossing Tilicho Pass, we observe acclimatization today, which allows us to adjust to the higher altitude. You are free to explore Manang’s dry and fascinating area. There are many options: climb to Chhongar viewpoint to enjoy the views of the Annapurna and Chulu peaks, the route passes the glacier Ganggapurna Lake; visit the two monasteries, one of which is over 600 years old; or simply relax in a warm guesthouse whilst snacking on freshly baked cake and soaking up the nearby snow-capped scenery. It is important to take some rest today before resuming our journey tomorrow.

Day 7Trek from Manang to Siri Kharka. Alt. 4060m, Trek 5 hrs

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner

As we move towards our destination on the Annapurna circuit trekking, away from Chame, we shall find dramatic changes in scenery. Hence, our solid trek will be the hike out of Manang, which will last about four to five hours and might test your legs. However, this hike will be worth it after reaching Bangsar Village, which is 3756 m high. Then, we will pass through a religious village as our trek heads uphill towards Siri Kharka. Sure, this climb will be tough, but the higher we go, the more jaw-dropping the views of Gungang Himal and the mighty peak of Mt. Chulu. After enjoying the views of the peaks, we will spend our night in the guesthouse.

Day 8Trek from Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp. Alt. 4140m, Trek 5 hours

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner

For us, to reach the Tilicho Base Camp, it will take 5 hours of trekking, which will be less difficult than the other hikes we do in these Annapurna treks. However, we might need to be cautious and avoid slips because it has an unstable terrain, which demands physical exertion, among other Annapurna circuit trekking. And that night, we will be staying at the Tilicho Base Camp.

Day 9Visit the Tilicho Lake then trek back to Siri Kharka. Alt. 4060m, Trek 5-6 hours

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

The Tilicho Lake is located at the base of the Tilicho Peak, which is about 7134 m. And returning to the main trial, the Annapurna Circuit trekking progresses through the yaks and deer grazing. However, the real magic happens when the lake reflects the light and makes it shift through every shade of brilliant sapphire. Moreover, this lake covers an area of 4.8 sq.km, and when we return to Siri Kharka after admiring the lake and other surrounding peaks.

Day 10Trek from Siri Kharka to Yak Kharka. Alt. 4018m, Trek 4 hours

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

The trip from Sri Kharka to Yak Kharka can be done in 4 hours. However, it might take us more time because we will be stopping several times to see the beautiful scenery and watch a herd of mountain goats that are grazing on the trail.

There’s also an amazing viewpoint of our Annapurna Circuit trekking before regaining the main route to Yak Kharka, where you can see the Annapurna III and the Gangapurna with Manang sitting below, along the Gangapurna can be witnessed upon climbing up the brown grassy hill from the village. The guesthouses in Yak Kharka are better than the ones you will find in the Tilicho side trek.

Day 11Trek from Yak Kharka to Phedi or High Camp. Alt. 4500m, Trek 4-5 hours.

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

We slowly descend our way further into the valley while leaving the Yak Kharka. On the left, the hillsides dropped down to a stream of water, which is known as Knon Khola, and we will continue to climb along its eastern bank. Moreover, our effort will eventually lead us towards the beautiful Khangsar Village. And, we will be passing through the monastery sitting peacefully at 3,870 meters, known as Tare Gumba. Then, until we reach the old Khangsar, which is an abandoned village, we follow the Throng Khole Valley before reaching our destination, which is Yak Kharka.

Day 12Trek from Thorong Pedi via Thorong La Pass (5,416m) then to Muktinath. Alt. 3802m, Trek 7-8 hours.

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Today’s our destination, Annapurna Circuit Trekking is a long but rewarding challenge. We will start our hike before dawn on ancient trails along the snowy mountains. After we ascend to the summit, which might take around 4 hours of hiking, at sunrise, the glowing peaks will motivate us during the steep ascent. There, we shall be greeted by the prayer flag, which tends to bless the energy of the wind, and we will be given the most breathtaking sight of peaks that will be above 6,000 m high, the Kali Gandaki Valley to the west, along with the Yakwakang to the north.

Our trek to Muktinath will be easy, however, the turns might get steeper. However, before reaching Muktinath, we shall be blessed with stunning views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), which is the 7th highest mountain in the world, as well as Nilgiri (6,940m). This place has a sacred temple where many pilgrims journey solely to visit this temple.

Day 13Drive from Muktinath to Pokhara. Alt. 820m, Drive 7 hrs

Overnight Lodge/Teahouse. It includes meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Today, we shall be passing through the scenic villages and orchids while travelling the ancient Kali Gandaki Valley. From here, we shall see the stunning views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. However, we relax in the hot springs while stopping in Tatopani before furthering on to Pokhara.
